In a first-of-its-kind event for TAFE NSW, prospective students in Bega will be able to log on to ‘virtual’ open days on 9-10 September to ensure they do not miss the opportunity to meet teachers and explore state-of-the-art facilities.

Visitors to the virtual event can connect one-on-one with teachers, take 360-degree tours of facilities, observe practical demonstrations, and access student support services and scholarship information in a virtual exhibition hall.

TAFE NSW regional general manager Belinda Mackinnon said school leavers and their parents and guardians will have unprecedented access to teachers from 60 course areas that are available for study across the state.

“The innovative virtual format of this event means anyone who is considering their career options doesn’t need to travel to explore absolutely every opportunity available to them at TAFE NSW,” she said.

“COVID-19 has undoubtedly presented challenges for the class of 2020, and I want to reassure school leavers the pandemic isn’t an obstacle to getting the skills they need to pursue the career of their dreams.

“TAFE NSW is leading the vocational education sector by ensuring all students continue to have access to training and information in a COVID-safe environment.”

Ms Mackinnon said with up to one in three Australians likely to look for a new job post-pandemic, TAFE NSW will play a critical role in reskilling locals.

The Federal Government’s Job Outlook predicts demand in industries where employment has grown strongly in recent years, including healthcare and social assistance, education and training, and construction.

“TAFE NSW graduates are in high demand because of the quality of their education and their ability to hit the ground running with job-ready skills that employers are looking for,” said Ms Mackinnon.
