More than $2.75 million in cash has been seized by NSW Police following a targeted search of a truck in Yass yesterday.
Acting on a tip-off, highway patrol officers from the Criminal Groups Squad’s Strike Force Raptor, approached a prime mover parked at a service station at Yass Valley Way at about 10:15 pm on Thursday 16 April, and spoke with the 52-year-old male driver.
The vehicle was searched with the assistance of the State Crime Command Drug and Firearms Squad, and Australian Border Force, with officers locating five shopping bags containing the cash.
Officers also seized a mobile phone, electronic equipment and a quantity of cannabis from the cabin area of the vehicle.
All items seized during the investigation will undergo forensic testing.
The South Australian man was arrested and taken to Goulburn Police Station, where he was charged with recklessly dealing with proceeds of crime and possessing a prohibited drug.
Police will allege in court that the man was transporting the $2.75 million in cash between Adelaide and Sydney.
He was refused bail and is set to appear at Goulburn Local Court today.
Investigations are continuing.
