33-year-old man charged following fatal accident near Yass

A 33-year-old man has been charged over a fatal crash northeast of Yass last year.

Emergency services were called to Rugby Road in Bevendale, about 45 km northeast of Yass, at about 7:10 am on 16 October 2023, following reports a northbound ute and hatchback had collided head-on.

The driver and sole occupant of the Subaru, a 68-year-old woman, died at the scene.

The driver and sole occupant of the ute, a 33-year-old man, suffered serious injuries and was treated by paramedics before being airlifted to Canberra Hospital. He has since been released.

Officers from the Hume Police District established a crime scene, and officers attached to the Crash Investigation Unit examined it.

Following inquiries, police attended a Bevendale property at approximately 1 pm on Wednesday (6 March) and arrested the 33-year-old man.

The man was taken to Goulburn Police Station and charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, driving a vehicle with an illicit drug (methylamphetamine) present in blood, and negligent driving occasioning death.

He was granted conditional bail to appear at Goulburn Local Court on 13 March 2024.
