Owners of an Eden antique store have been left “devastated” after $100,000 worth of jewellery was allegedly stolen over the Easter long weekend.
Police said between 4 pm on Friday (7 April) and 9 am on Saturday (8 April), the Imlay Street store was broken into with three glass cabinets smashed.
“The items taken include 220 gold and silver rings, as well as several pendants, bracelets, earrings and brooches, totalling $100,000,” a statement said.
“The jewellery is both contemporary and antique, and is easily identifiable.”
The owners of Eden Antiques, Collectables and Old Wares took to Facebook to plead with the community for help.
“We are devasted with the loss of these items, many of these pieces were one-off items – particularly the late Victorian pieces,” they wrote.
“Each of these items were tagged (a white jewellery tag with description and price and have code on reverse side “MC01”).
“Most of the items were taken in their jewellery boxes.”
The allegedly stolen pieces have been described as “vintage/heirloom/antique” gold ranging from 9 to 18 carats.
It’s believed sterling silver jewellery was also taken.
“We are asking for some public assistance with respect to locating all/some of these items should they ‘hit the marketplace’,” the owners posted.
“If you have any contacts in the antiques, jewellery, pawn-broking or online sales (eg Marketplace/Buy Swap Sell) areas, please share this post.
“These are the only current images we have found so far and give an idea of what we are hunting down.”
Anyone with information that could assist police with their investigation, including nearby stores with CCTV, have been urged to contact Eden Police on 6491 5280 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
