Wednesday, 27 January, 8:45 am: The Booderee Fire that burnt 350 hectares to the east of Caves Beach Road, south-west of Jervis Bay Airport on Australia Day, has been contained.
The NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) has reduced the Watch and Act alert for Wreck Bay Village and Jervis Bay Village to Advice level.
A southerly change and light rain around 8:00 pm last night (26 January) helped firefighters bring the fire under control.
Crews continued to monitor the fire ground overnight, putting out hotspots. They will continue to do the same today.
The RFS was alerted to the fire shortly after 12:00 pm yesterday. The cause is still unknown and is under investigation, an RFS spokesperson said.
Three large air tankers were deployed to lay retardant lines while firefighters undertook backburning operations to contain the fire.
There was no threat to property; however, the RFS was concerned the fire could spread to Wreck Bay Village and Jervis Bay Village if it broke containment lines.
Booderee National Park was also closed and people remain advised to stay away from the area.
While the threat level has reduced, residents in the area, particularly near Wreck Bay Village and Jervis Bay Village, are advised to continue to monitor conditions and follow the advice of firefighters in the area.
