Construction work has commenced on the upgrade of Mountain Ash Road, near Goulburn, which is expected to continue until December 2020. Goulburn Mulwaree Council secured $1.5 million from the NSW Centre for Road Safety’s Saving Lives on Country Roads program, and Mayor Bob Kirk says he is happy to see work begin.
“I’m pleased to see work will now get underway on Mountain Ash Road, which is a road we have been pushing for funding for,” he said.
Construction and upgrade work began on Monday, 18 May, and will continue until December this year. Road users are urged to use patience during this time. Traffic management will be in place to ensure work progresses safely, and that delays are kept to a minimum.
The road will remain open to traffic at all times, but there will be some delays on this route throughout the project between Marian Vale Road and Jerrara Road.
The project will include extensive widening, pavement rehabilitation, road sealing, drainage improvements and vegetation clearing where necessary.
“We have found the Saving Lives on Country Roads program to be very beneficial to our region in recent years,” said Mayor Kirk. “I look forward to the improvements that will be made at Mountain Ash Road.”
During the works, all speed restrictions and traffic controls must be adhered to, ensuring the safety of workers and the public. Council expressed that while all measures will be taken to minimise any inconvenience to the public, it is asking for the cooperation of all motorists.
