Nestled into a veil of green just across the road from Bermagui River, 106-110 Lamont Street has plenty of stories to tell.
There are not one, not two, but three residences on this 3000 sqm property. They all have distinct personalities and fantastic renovation potential.
First up is what was once known around Bermagui as the ‘Opera House’.
Local tales aside, not much is known about this striking five-bedroom, 1930s guest house before it was purchased by its current family in 1969. It could have hosted all sorts of mysterious travellers, students, performers … who knows?
Beside it sits an old doctor’s surgery, with a simple three-bedroom cottage attached.
Finally, the forest-like garden leads to a charming two-bedroom brick residence on the other side of the block.
Sales agent Robert Tacheci describes the property as truly one of a kind.
“While the whole block is beautiful, the Opera House sets a grand theme in its own, eccentric way,” he says.
“The heart of the ground floor is a huge living room, which hosts a dining area at one end. It features an updated fireplace surrounded by marble, sculpted and coloured to look like carved wood, and a range of antique furnishings.
“Across the hall is the master bedroom and ensuite bathroom. The kitchen leads to a cosy front balcony overlooking Bermagui River.”
A versatile room near the first-floor entry would make the perfect study, library, or home office.
On the upper level are four attic-style bedrooms, a second living space, and a functional bathroom.

The second dwelling next to the Opera House comes in the form of a simple cottage. Its colourful threshold leads to a bright, open-plan living and dining room. The vintage corner kitchen is complete with a servery window and a stove inlet, which maximises floor space.
A welcoming sunroom adjoins the main bedroom. At the cottage’s far end are two more bedrooms, in what used to be a doctor’s practice.
“Stepping into the garden paradise that dominates the centre of this property is like entering another world,” Robert says.
“Mature palms, ferns and deciduous trees preserve countless vibrant plants. The canopy creates a little oasis with dappled shade and sunlight.
“The space can be explored via little paths which reveal hidden decorative features, including a solid water fountain.”
Along the garden paths to the other end of the property is the final residence.
This solid brick home is more modern than its counterparts, featuring exposed timber beams and raked ceilings that invite in ample natural light.
Another open-plan living and dining room connects to the country-style kitchen via an island bench. Two bedrooms share a quaint bathroom, and there is a separate laundry area.

Number 106-110 Lamont Street is comprised of three separately priced lots, each approximately a quarter-acre in size.
To honour its place in Bermagui’s history, the current owners welcome negotiations to purchase the entire block or a combination of two lots.
The main house and cottage occupy most of lot one. Lot two is a garden paradise with mature trees, lush lawns and exotic plantings. The gardens extend onto lot three, which also hosts the brick residence.
Robert describes the property as a renovator’s dream.
“There’s a lot of history here, and romantic 1930s architecture with features you just don’t see anymore,” he says.
“You could live in the brick house while refurbishing the other residences. I imagine there would be many peaceful afternoons spent relaxing in the gardens between them.
“It would be so rewarding to bring this property back to life.”
Bermagui is a scenic South Coast village with a great love for all things seaside. Despite being relatively small, the community has a vibrant art and music scene.
Nature is deeply ingrained in life here, and for foodies, the town offers a range of restaurants, cafes, takeaways, pubs, and clubs to explore.
106-110 Lamont Street at Bermagui is available as one holding, priced by negotiation, or three individually priced lots, which range from $945,000 to $1,580,000. For more information or to schedule an inspection, contact Robert Tacheci on 0407 934 160.
