Wherever you look in the regions this week there’s so much going on – from sport, to live symphonies by the water, to annual shows and races, there’s something for you and your family. Let us show you the best of what’s on in the regions in the next few days.

Multiple Days

Hockey NSW Indoor State Championship – Masters Women

When: 31 January to 2 February, 8 am to 7 pm
Where: 47 Braidwood Road, Goulburn
Cost: Free.

Teams from all over NSW will get together over the weekend to compete against one another in the NSW Indoor State Championship. Players show off their hockey prowess on the court as friends, family and fans cheer from the sidelines. Come along, watch and cheer as Gouldburn hosts some of the finest women’s hockey talent from across the state.

150th Bega Cup Carnival

When: 1 February from noon, 2 February from 12:15 pm
Where: 1695 Sapphire Coast Drive, Kalaru
Cost: Under 18s enter free, pensioners $10, adults $20.

The Bega Cup Carnival is a two-day extravaganza of racing, live music and fashion on the field, bringing together the whole community for a weekend at the track.

It’s absolutely packed with things to get excited about, with more than $500,000 in prize money, a golf day, kids’ entertainment, a bar and food trucks and that’s not even mentioning the races themselves. So, don your finest suit (or your highest heels) and your most flamboyant hat to cheer on your lucky pick all the way to the finish line.

Yoga at The Shed

When: 1 February, 7:30 am
Where: 1650 Alpine Way, Lake Crackenback
Cost: $25.

If your 2025 resolution was to be healthier, then look no further than yoga at The Shed. Start off Saturday right with an early morning hour-long session of stretching and exercise at beautiful Lake Crackenback.

The Shed is the perfect place to practise your yoga; it’s a quiet space with other like-minded yoga practitioners looking to escape the noise and get centred in the beautiful Snowy Mountains.

Nimmitabel Show

When: 1 February, gates open at 7:30 am
Where: Nimmitabel Showgrounds, Ryedale Road, Nimmitabel
Cost: Free entry.

The Nimmitabel Show has been getting locals together for family fun every year since 1903 and with a century-long pedigree behind it, it’s only getting better. The show boasts a stacked roster of activities like chainsawing events, show shearing, cattle competitions, equine events including show jumping and live music from Aussie country music singer Amber Lawrence.

Whether you’ve entered into some of the events as a competitor or you’re just spectating, the Nimmitabel Show is a staple in the area – you wouldn’t want to miss it.

Music by the River

When: 1 February, 4 to 9 pm
Where: 41 Morisset Street, Queanbeyan
Cost: Free entry, with a few paid seats in the amphitheatre. Bookings required.

Celebrate the ninth year of Music by the River with a range of musical styles from a gallery of talented artists. The fun starts at 4 pm with a local DJ, then the program moves on to this year’s special theme, the greatest hits of the disco genre.

This program, featuring guest vocalist Mig Ayesa and conductor George Ellis, is going to be a special show all about the bright lights of the disco era. Music lovers from around the region are in for a real treat as the Canberra Symphony Orchestra comes to town, bringing the best of the capital’s talent right to you.

Food is available for purchase and those with free seating are encouraged to bring their own chair or picnic blanket.

Mogo Wildlife Park Sunset Tour

When: 1 February, 4:30 to 6 pm
Where: Mogo Wildlife Park, 222 Tomakin Rd, Mogo
Cost: Tickets from $90 to $130.

This exclusive tour of the Mogo Wildlife Park lets you see the park after hours with a small group (maximum 20 guests) for a more intimate zoo experience. Guests will be treated to a guided tour where qualified zookeepers provide knowledge and insight into some of the zoo’s most amazing creatures.

Guests can look forward to an up-close meeting with the zoo’s endangered white rhino and a barbecue dinner overlooking the silvery gibbons. Come see the zoo by a different light at the Wildlife Park Sunset Tour.

Mahalia Barnes & The Soul Mates

When: 1 February, 6:15 to 10 pm
Where: 1692 Murrumbateman Road, Gundaroo
Cost: Tickets from $59.13.

Inspired by the likes of Tina Turner, Ray Charles and Otis Redding, Mahalia Barnes is a blues and soul vocalist with a lifetime of experience. Mahalia and her band live for soul and blues and their raw performances are full of energy and passion for music. This is a rare opportunity to see one of Australia’s best musical talents in the blues genre; see them this Saturday at the Tallagandera Hilll Winery.

Fabric Dyeing and Printing at Creative Space Goulburn

When: 6 February, 10 am to 12:30 pm
Where: Shop 18/210 Auburn Street, Goulburn
Cost: $280, includes all tuition, materials, including large canvas, and afternoon tea.

Explore the possibilities of textile art at Creative Space Goulburn with this class all about dyeing, printing and designing your own fabrics. Use printing techniques, embroidery, embellishment, dyeing and more to create your own unique designs on cotton and calico – you could even breathe new life into an older piece of clothing by giving it a new revamped personal design.

The class will take you from the process of design all the way to construction. Keep it simple and minimalistic or let your inner designer come out and craft something more complex.
