While three teens were charged over the death of Canberra’s Peter Keeley, they have been separated into two different trials.
Three boys, all aged 17 at the time of their arrests, were charged with murdering the 56-year-old auctioneer and real estate sales consultant on 2 February 2020. His body was found in bushland at Broulee on the NSW South Coast.
In March 2021, two of them appeared in the NSW Supreme Court in Sydney where they both pleaded not guilty to murder. These two will be tried together. The matter has been set down for an estimated four-week Supreme Court trial starting on 9 August 2021 before Justice Michael Walton.
In June 2021, the third teen was also committed for trial. But when he appeared in the Sydney Supreme Court on Friday (2 July), it was determined he would face a stand-alone Supreme Court trial on 19 April 2022.
This boy has still not formally entered a plea. All three have been refused bail and remain in custody ahead of their next court appearances.
In February 2020, NSW Police said Mr Keeley was found in bushland near McNee Street, Broulee, and while a post mortem examination conducted on his body was inconclusive, he had suffered head and facial injuries.
