Transport for NSW is taking live questions about the South Batemans Bay Link Road project, which is aiming to ease congestion in the South Coast town’s central business district (CBD), via its Facebook page on Friday, 8 May.
The project will install a new roundabout on the Princes Highway and a new two-lane road to connect the highway to the link road at Glenella Road.
The aim of the project is to relieve pressure and traffic along Beach Road and help future-proof an expansion of the CBD in the process.
The environmental assessment and concept design report into the project was released in April, and submissions on the potential environmental, social and economic impacts of the proposal are open to the public until 24 May.
The $30 million project will then proceed to a more detailed design process once all the submissions have been reviewed.
“The Princes Highway is an important connection for regional road users and is a key commuter, recreational and commercial route,” states the report.
“Batemans Bay currently experiences congestion along Beach Road and in the CBD due to growth in the region and increased traffic during peak holiday periods.
“The South Batemans Bay Link Road would improve safety, improve access for the southern coastal villages and support the long-term growth and development of the South Coast region.”

A biodiversity assessment, commissioned by Transport for NSW, found that almost 23 hectares of native vegetation would be cleared, which would impact the breeding habitat for glossy black cockatoos and sooty owls in the area.
