Christmas is finally here … well, almost, and to make the lead-up to festive celebrations like Christmas and New Year’s Eve more fun, we’ve got several events you can take your family to and enjoy.
Before Christmas, there’s a comedy show and an art exhibition in Batemans Bay, a Christmas party and a painting class in Wagga, and a market in Batehaven.
After Christmas, there’s a market to visit in Moruya and an art exhibit opening in Bega.

Daniel Connell – Gutless Wonder

Award-nominated stand-up comedian Daniel Connell is bringing his new comedy show Gutless Wonder to Batemans Bay just before Christmas.
The 39-year-old funnyman this year alone has made an appearance on the Opening Night Allstar Comedy Supershow on the ABC, and sold out his entire run at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival with this show.
Grab your friends and family and get ready for a good night with endless laughter.
Wagga Greyhounds Christmas Party
When: Friday, 23 December, 6:30 pm
Where: Wagga Showgrounds Greyhound Racing, Corner Bourke and Urana streets, Wagga Wagga
Cost: Adults $5, kids enter free.
Are you looking for a fun way to celebrate Christmas Eve? Come along to the Wagga Showgrounds from 6 pm this Friday to enjoy a party with lots of fun for the whole family.
There will be greyhound racing, live music performances, kids’ entertainment including a dance group performance, face painting, local market stalls, raffles, a canteen, a bar, and an appearance from Santa, who will hand out gifts for the kids.
Paint and Picasso – Sloshy the Snowman
When: Friday, 23 December, 7 to 10 pm

If you feel like getting festive and creative, head to Pinot and Picasso in Wagga Wagga for a special Christmas painting class to paint Sloshy the Snowman.
The three-hour session costs $59 and covers the cost of the 16′ x 20′ blank canvas, acrylic paints, brushes, a table easel, a Pinot & Picasso apron and glassware for your beverages.
38th Annual Art and Craft Exhibition opening
When: Friday, 23 December, 6 pm
Where: Batemans Bay High School, 2 George Bass Drive, Batehaven
Cost: Free entry.
Taking place this Friday is the opening of Batemans Bay’s Annual Arts and Crafts Exhibition (held by CABBI – Creative Arts Batemans Bay Inc).
Celebrating its 38th year, the exhibit showcases local artists’ paintings, sculptures and craft, which are then judged by well-known artists on the South Coast. Winners of the 2022 exhibition will be announced on the Friday, and then the exhibition will be open daily from 10 am to 4 pm for anyone to visit.
Edward Road Market Place
When: Friday, 23 December, 9 am to 2 pm
Where: 2 Edward Road, Batehaven

If you’re looking for somewhere to get your last-minute goods and gifts for Christmas, the Edward Road Market Place has you sorted. Here you will find a variety of fresh food and vegetables, art, homemade candles, fresh flowers and plants, with food and coffee on site.
Sage Farmers Market
When: Tuesday, 27 December, 3 to 5 pm
Where: Riverside Park, Moruya
Cost: Free.
The SAGE Farmers Market is back this Tuesday for its last event of the year. This market is community-friendly and offers a variety of high-quality fresh food including fruit and vegetables coming straight from farmers. There’s also plenty of bread, meat, seafood, handmade preserves, free-range eggs and more.
Past and Present – Graeme Krake solo

If you’re looking for something artsy to do during the week, well-known Australian painter and teacher Graeme Krake’s new art display is now open to the public at the Spiral Gallery. His exhibit is based on showcasing landscapes while adding various elements to give viewers an extra dimension.
