Emergency services will restart their rescue efforts this morning (19 September) after a plane crash in southern NSW.
A small recreational aircraft left Bankstown on Thursday (18 September), carrying a single occupant.
A NSW Police spokesperson said the alarm was raised at about 4:30 pm, after reports that an aircraft’s Emergency Location Transmitter had activated.
They said the plane was in the process of returning to the airport at the time.
Police started a multi-agency search, with assistance from the Australian Maritime Safety Authority, NSW Toll Ambulance Helicopter, Fire and Rescue NSW, Rural Fire Service and NSW Ambulance.
At about 5:30 pm, the crash site in Budawang National Park (about 25 kilometres north of Batemans Bay) was located from the air.
“Due to the terrain and weather conditions, emergency services were unable to access the crash site by vehicle or on foot,” NSW Police said.
The search and rescue operation is expected to continue throughout the day.
