On Saturday, 12 December, Vinnies in Yass will host a live auction of treasures found in its store, with all proceeds going to support people doing it tough this Christmas.

Some of the items up for auction (pictured below) include vintage Star Wars Lego, jewellery, antique furniture, Indigenous art, vintage clothing and a pink retro musical car.

After a traditional welcome to country and smoking ceremony, Yass Valley Council Mayor Rowena Abbey will open the Found it at Vinnies Auction, with auctioneer Steve Scroope ready to knock the gavel.

“Not only is it an important event for the local community as they demonstrate strength in a time of need, but it is also a great opportunity for Canberrans to experience the spirit and community Yass has,” said Vinnies Canberra/Goulburn director of centres Lindsay Rae.

“The day will be full of friendly faces, enviable items and a sausage sizzle provided by the local Lions club. What more could you want for a Saturday?”

Participants can register as a pre-bidder by visiting the Vinnies Yass location at 97 Meehan Street, calling the shop on 02 6234 7450 or upon arrival on the day. Both cash and EFTPOS will be available during the auction.

The Vinnies Yass auction will be a COVID-19-safe event, with a dedicated marshal to ensure that protocol is being followed.

The St Vincent de Paul Society has faced challenges to its operations in 2020, beginning with helping those affected by the Black Summer bushfires, followed by changing services and delivery methods to ensure companions were looked after during COVID-19.

With the relaxing of restrictions as we head into the festive season, Vinnies wants to ensure everyone feels loved and supported.

“Christmas already puts pressure on families who are experiencing difficulties,” said St Vincent de Paul Society Canberra/Goulburn president John Feint. “Besides the normal stressors of bills, food, rent payments and more, there are the added difficulties of paying for a Christmas meal and presents to celebrate with some normalcy.”

This festive period, Vinnies will need to provide more food and financial support than ever before. Vinnies in Yass knows that people are in need and is rallying the local community to help them.

The Found it at Vinnies Auction begins at 10:30 am on Saturday, 12 December, in the quadrangle at Mt Carmel School (24 Dutton Street, Yass). Items will be available to preview from 9:30 am until the auction begins.
