Goulburn Mulwaree Council awarded two tenders for the redevelopment of the Goulburn Regional Hockey Facility at its council meeting on Tuesday, 2 February.
The tenders will see work begin on the refurbishment of the western field, and the construction of new LED lighting systems for both fields.
“I’m pleased at the quick progress we’ve been able to make on this project following the great news in November [2020] where we gained $3.87 million in funding from the NSW Government,” said Goulburn Mulwaree Council Mayor Bob Kirk.
“As a council, our focus is on getting the western field at the facility upgraded to a water-based turf so our hockey community has two usable fields. I look forward to seeing the first games on that field in 2021.”
Polytan was selected to provide the refurbished water-based field, at a cost of $1,710,137. The company is experienced in the provision of turf hockey fields and was the sole supplier of hockey surfacing for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil.
Power by Watts was awarded the tender for the design and construction of a new LED lighting system for the two fields to ensure they are capable of hosting national grade competitions. The existing light poles will be retained, with the project costing $344,971.
Upgraded men’s and women’s change rooms, and a new 132-space sealed car park will also be constructed as part of the wider project, enabling the Goulburn Regional Hockey Facility to meet state and national hockey championship requirements.
The NSW Government’s Restart NSW program provided $3.8 million for the project, and the Goulburn Hockey Association contributed $200,000.
Goulburn Mulwaree Council purchased the complex off Goulburn Workers Club for $3 million in November 2020 to secure the future of hockey in the region.
