There’s plenty to do in the region this weekend, especially if you’re a fan of potatoes and apples, a lover of live performance or have a passion for fitness and dance.
The inaugural Robertson Potato Festival will run all weekend as will the Priscilla Queen of the Desert musical at the Q Theatre in Queanbeyan.
On Saturday, there’s a Bring n Buy Bonanza in Merimbula and Prada Clutch, one of Australia’s most famous drag queens is coming to Goulburn. A Mother’s Day market in Tarago, a family Bush Dance in Bungonia and weekly Zumba fitness classes in Moruya kick off this weekend.
Sunday is a fun day out for the whole family. The Tallong Apple Day Festival promises broad a-peel and further south is the Runnyford/Buckenbowra Community Family Fun Day.

Robertson Potato Festival

The Southern Highlands welcomes everyone to a spud-tastic weekend at the first Robertson Potato Festival. The home of the Big Potato will host two packed days of family fun including live cooking demonstrations, music and performances and prizes. Competitions will include potato sack races, a spud ‘n’ spoon race, competitive peeling, competitive mash eating (yes, really) and potato sack stacking competitions.
The more competitions you compete in, the more prizes and points you’ll receive towards being crowned the 2022 Spudfest Champion or Cream of the Crop.
Little kids will enjoy potato picking, potato bowling and crafting tables where they can make vegetable people, take part in Hessian art, do potato stamping and decorate a spud. Robertson Public School students will run these activities as part of their 150th-anniversary fundraiser.
There will also be fresh food, plants and gardening products for sale and a concert filled with a great lineup of local artists and musicians including Nick Rhineburger, Modern Day Gents, the Shane Pacey Trio, Angus Murray Band, Rapunzel’s Party and Rusted Track.

The musical adaptation of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert is rolling into The Q Theatre from this Friday 29 April, until Sunday 22 May.
It’s based on the 1994 movie about the journey of drag queens Tick and Adam and transgender woman Bernadette, as they travel across Australia in their bus named Priscilla. Both heart-warming and uplifting, the adventure of the three people leads them to find love and friendship. With outrageous costumes and many dance floor favourites, it’s no wonder this fresh and funny musical is an Aussie classic.

Bring n Buy Bonanza

Where: Merimbula Uniting Church Hall, Lake View Ave, Merimbula
Cost: Free.
This Saturday the Bring n Buy Bonanza takes place at the Merimbula Uniting Church Hall to help raise much-needed funds for the homeless.
The concept is to bring in your old clothes and unwanted goods for donation and buy other second-hand items. All proceeds go towards the Social Justice Advocates of the Sapphire Coast.
Organised by Merimbula dance group Take Your Brain Dancing, it calls on people to search their wardrobes and homes for men’s and women’s clothes, shoes, bags, accessories, jewellery, scarves, books, homemade goods and garden produce they can donate towards the cause.
The event will also feature an afternoon tea and guest speaker from Social Justice Advocates co-chairman Mick Brosnan.

Prada Clutch: All Drag Revue

Prada Clutch, one of Australia’s most in-demand live-singing drag queens will be headlining at the Goulburn Performing Arts Centre this Saturday night.
The show is creatively directed by one of Australia’s original Les Girls of Kings Cross, Monique Kelly. Monique was a member of Les Girls from 1973 to 1997. She has a keen eye for detail and a photographic memory of how it was done in her day, making her a valuable asset to the show.
The show features seven cast members and is choreographed by Stephen Clarke, who has been professionally dancing and choreographing since 1985. He has worked with Kylie and Dannii Minogue, Cyndi Lauper and Diana Ross.
Packed with dazzling feathers, wigs, headpieces, costumes and killer moves, this is a drag spectacular you won’t want to miss.

The Market in Tarago is back this weekend for a mother’s day special. It will feature an eclectic mix of market stalls from around the region with handmade goods, second-hand items, crafts, homewares, candles and more. There will also be fresh produce for sale and a selection of food stalls and coffee available throughout the day.

The Bungonia Family Bush Dance puts amazing ‘Bundanoon Folk Musicians’ on show.

Jessica Brown is bringing weekly Zumba fitness classes to Moruya from this Saturday, in partnership with Element Cheer and Dance Studio. She looks forward to helping people improve their fitness levels and leave her classes feeling stronger, happier and more confident.
The classes will incorporate cardio, muscle conditioning, balance and flexibility. Participants are encouraged to go at their own pace, make the best of the exercises and just do what makes them feel comfortable. Jessica will provide high interval intensive workouts for participants to build up their cardio and endurance while having fun. Be sure to register.

Tallong Apple Day Festival

Tallong Apple Day Festival is back in 2022 for a great day out for the whole family with plenty of apples to see, buy and eat.
The Tallong community invites people to come together and celebrate its rich apple orchard heritage and enjoy some fun attractions, plenty of craft and food stalls, events for children and competitions.
There will also be whip-cracking mediaeval battles, wood chopping, a bake-off, photography competitions, a car show, a rock climbing wall, bungee jumping, live music, puppet shows, snakes and reptiles and loads more.
People are asked to park in Marulan and use the shuttle service from Truckstop 31, 10 George St, Marulan, as there is no parking in Tallong. Shuttle buses will run from 8:30 am to 4 pm every 15 minutes.
All proceeds raised on the day will go back into the Tallong community to fund their skate park.
