There’s plenty to do in the region this Anzac Day long weekend, especially if you love art, live music, markets and delicious food.
The Aussie Night Markets will take over Queanbeyan Showground with delicious sweets, savoury foods, market stalls and kids’ rides from Friday to Saturday.
Now’s your last chance to catch the Easter Art Exhibition in Merimbula, which wraps up on Sunday. There’s also an Aboriginal Cultural Burning Workshop in Bungendore across both weekend days.
Saturday is action-packed with an art workshop for kids in Batemans Bay, an Anzac Day concert at the Batemans Bay Soldiers Club, an evening of live DJs playing at Moruya’s Waterfront Hotel and Minnie & The Moonrakers bringing their live swing and blues music to Braidwood.
Also on Saturday, Goulburn will host two events – the Markets on Bourke and the Speedway Race Night.

The Aussie Night Markets are back in Queanbeyan this weekend. The two-night event will feature a variety of gourmet desserts and savouries from regional food vendors, international street food, boutique retail stalls, music and plenty of entertainment for the kids including amusement rides and a jumping castle.
There will be an abundance of temptations for sweet tooths including The Cream Machine’s soft serves and milkshakes, THICC Cookies’ New York-style cookies, Chillato’s gelato and sorbet, James and the Chocolate Berry’s fruit skewers and chocolate dip, My Belgian Waffles authentic waffles and glow in the dark fairy floss.

Last chance to check out works by the Merimbula and District Arts Group at the Easter Art Exhibition, on display until Sunday at the Twyford Hall. The local artists from the Bega Valley Shire will display their pieces to promote and encourage fine arts and culture within Merimbula and welcome more art community members to the group.

This weekend, the Birkenburn Farm in Bungendore will host a two-day introduction to the Aboriginal culture, inviting anyone from an Aboriginal or non-Aboriginal background to learn about cultural burning, smoking ceremonies and fire control techniques and the history behind it. Morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea will be provided each day and Den Barber of Yarrabin Cultural Connections will lead the workshop. All you need is a reasonable fitness level to walk 4 km of hilly terrain to access the burn site.

The Goulburn Speedway Race Night is back this Saturday with an action-packed evening featuring the NSW Title junior sedans, compact speed cars, fender benders, formula 500s, dwarf cars, modified productions, legend cars, super sedans, sprint cars, four-cylinder demo derby, wingless sprints and much more. Races will commence at 6 pm for all the family (kids included) to join.

Children aged nine to 12 are invited to come together for an active art workshop at the Eurobodalla Regional Botanic Garden this Saturday. They will get the opportunity to explore some of the magical species that grow in the garden and create art based on loving and appreciating the surroundings. They’ll also learn about the changes to the environment after the bushfires and explore the concepts of new growth and beginnings. Each child will also be able to take their art home.

This Saturday night at the Batemans Bay Soldiers Club, Fred Smith and his band will be performing a series of music inspired by Australia’s involvement in Afghanistan. It will begin with songs from Fred’s acclaimed Dust of Uruzgan album, which draws upon his experiences working alongside Australian soldiers in southern Afghanistan and reflects material he wrote after he experienced the dramatic evacuation from Kabul in August 2021.

On Saturday 23 April, five DJs will be taking over the Moruya Waterfront Hotel including Tennis Club DJs, Joshua Brian, Bryn Diesel, Snackbox and Usual Suspects DJs for an Anzac Day long weekend party filled with lots of music and fun. Get ready and grab your friends and family to eat, drink, party and dance like nobody is watching.

Check out the Royal Mail Hotel in Braidwood for some live swing and blues music by Minnie & The Moonrakers this Saturday night. The free concert can be enjoyed over a meal and drinks with your friends and family, but the music alone is not to be missed.

The Markets on Bourke are held on the fourth Saturday of every month at the Goulburn Scout Hall and are back this weekend. They offer a range of market stalls with lots of local goods for sale including arts, crafts, produce, books, jewellery, antiques, matchbox cars, knitted goods, household items, plants, fresh flowers and more.
