It’s Father’s Day on Sunday and there’s plenty to see and do with dad and the whole family this week in the region.
A country rock festival kicks off Friday, running all weekend with a massive lineup.
This Saturday, there’s a musical-themed karaoke night and youth busking festival in Goulburn and Narrandera launches the season’s busy country show circuit in the regions.
On Sunday, the Shoalhaven Chilli, Cheese and Chocolate Festival brings all things delicious to Nowra, Woodstock’s annual memorial country show is back, a certain beloved kite festival returns to Googong and Cassidy Ceili is performing live at The Hive in Queanbeyan.
On Wednesday it’s West Wyalong’s turn to put on a show with all the activities, exhibitions and showcases we’ve come to expect from a traditional country show.

Country Rocks Festival
When: Friday 2 to Sunday 4 September, various times
Where: Bungendore Showground, 71 Mathews Ln, Bungendore

Get set for a full weekend of lively country music and atmosphere, excellent camping, fantastic food and drinks and plenty to do for the whole family. Headlining is The Wolfe Brothers and there’s a massive lineup including Thirsty Merc, McAlister Kemp, The Badloves, Kirsty Lee Akers, Melody Moko, Hayley Jensen, Bill Chambers, Paul Costa, Brewn, Ingrid Mae, King Kanyon and many more. Country Rocks will again partner with the local Rural Fire Service, raising much-needed funds for local and surrounding brigades, Rotary and local community organisations. A courtesy bus will run from the Lake George Hotel Bungendore to the festival.

‘Hills Are Alive’ Song Night

Where: Goulburn Club, 19 Market Street, Goulburn
Cost: $5 donation upon entry.
The Hills are Alive at the Goulburn Club this Saturday with an open mic night to showcase local talent. Open to singers of all ages and abilities, the Goulburn community is invited to participate or watch members of the community sing their hearts out while fundraising for future events and seasonal programs at the Club. The evening invites solo vocalists, duets and groups to sing anything from a theatre show or musical.

Buskout! – Youth Busking Festival
When: Saturday 3 September, 12 pm – 2 pm
Where: Auburn Street, Goulburn
Cost: Free entry.
Goulburn’s school-aged musicians will grace Auburn Street this weekend with a live showcase of diverse talents for this youth busking competition. Buskout! is all about supporting Goulburn’s youth and encouraging young performers to put themselves out there. The Festival is open to students aged from five to 18 years old. Narrandera’s longest-running annual event, this show attracts thousands of people each year. Country and city come together to enjoy agricultural competitions, rides, exhibitions, entertainment, show bags, horse events, a truck show, a magician, shopping, fireworks and much more in a lively carnival atmosphere.

74th Annual Woodstock Memorial Show
When: Sunday 4 September, 9 am – 4 pm
Where: Woodstock Showground, West Robinson Loftus and South sts, Woodstock

Billed as “an authentic country show, showcasing all aspects of country life”, this one is set to entertain all. For the young, there will be face painting, Troppo Magic, Dinkum Dinosaurs, a small sideshow alley, the K9 Superwall with Farmer Dave and the RuffTraack crew. For the rest, expect everything from speed shearing to whip cracking, car, ute and bike shows, a market laneway, livestock exhibits, horse-ring events, competitions and anything else you can imagine to encapsulate the true essence of the traditional country show.

Just in time for Father’s Day the Shoalhaven Chilli, Cheese and Chocolate Festival is filled with delicious food, eating competitions, market stalls, activities and more for the whole family. With free entry for kids, each adult ticket purchased comes with a $10 token to spend at any stall or activity at the festival.

Kitefest Googong

Returning to Googong after a three-year hiatus just in time to celebrate Father’s Day, this beloved community event invites families to go fly a kite. About 2000 attendees are expected this year, so BYO kites and picnic blankets and stake out your space under a technicoloured sky. Food vendors will include the Meat Wizard, Cinnaglaze and Googong Hogs, while a local DJ will provide inflight entertainment.

Queanbeyan offers an afternoon filled with Celtic and contemporary folk music by Canberra band Cassidy’s Ceili. Comprising lead vocalist Cassidy, fiddler Sandy Gibbney, guitarist and banjo player Peter Richens, drummer Jon Jones and bass player Ian Blake, this unique mix of musicians is guaranteed to entertain and impress.
