There’s plenty for the family to do in the regions this weekend, especially if you love live music, comedy shows, fresh produce and markets.

Running across Friday night, the sounds of Italy come to Goulburn in a two-hour show, comedian Akmal Saleh performs at Batemans Bay and multi-platinum ARIA-award-winning artist Alex Lloyd performs in Queanbeyan.

From Saturday, grab your dancing shoes for Jive at The Hive in Queanbeyan or check out the Goulburn Poultry Fanciers’ Society Annual Show. The Southern Harvest Farmers Market is taking place in Bungendore, The Whitlams Power Trio are performing in Batemans Bay and Tarago is holding its truffle hunts.

To end the week on Sunday, the Windellama Country Markets bring home typical country market charm.

Jane Rutter: Viva Italia!

Join virtuoso instrumentalists flautist Jane Rutter and guitarist Giuseppe Zangari as they celebrate the music of Italy. There will be plenty of tarantellas, Italian dances and songs by Vivaldi, Verdi, Giuliani, Corelli, Paganini, Caccini, Ennio Morricone and Piovanni (from the film La Vita e Bella) with advice from some famous Italians.

The Best of Akmal

He has toured international comedy festivals worldwide, starred in films and TV including I’m a Celebrity, Get me Out of Here, written a book about his Egyptian upbringing and experiences moving to Australia and won an ARIA award. In his hugely successful 25-year career Akmal Saleh has cemented his reputation as a comedic national treasure. This Friday night, he’s bringing his best to a one-hour show in Batemans Bay.

Alex Lloyd ‘Live And Amazing’ tour

Queanbeyan is the next stop on Alex Lloyd’s Australian tour, Live And Amazing. The multi-platinum ARIA-award-winning musician brings all his hits to the stage performing classics like Amazing, Black the Sun, Lucky Star, Green, Coming Home and Never Meant To Fail together with some much loved and well-known covers such as Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen) and Better Be Home Soon (Crowded House).

Jive @ The Hive this Winter Solstice

Jive @ The Hive returns to Queanbeyan to celebrate the Winter Solstice with an afternoon of jazz, blues, grunge rock, country and Americana music. This lineup came to life to support International Women’s Day and will involve dancing around the firepits and keeping warm with great music and good times. There will be a licensed bar and the food offering will include gluten-free and vegan options.

Goulburn Poultry Fanciers’ Society Annual Show

When: Saturday 18 June, 9 am – 5 pm
Where: 45 Braidwood Road, Goulburn
Cost: Free entry for spectators.

The Goulburn Poultry Fanciers’ Society Annual Show offers more than $4000 in cash, prizes and trophies. The extensive range of birds varies but generally includes a selection of soft feather, hard feather, standard, bantam, waterfowl, purebred, rare, crossbreeds, guinea fowl, peafowl, turkeys, pheasants and other bird breeds such as quails, parrots and finches. Equipment such as incubators, feeders and carry boxes will also be for sale.

Southern Harvest Farmers Market in Bungendore

The Whitlams Power Trio delivers the celebrated The Whitlams live experience as a trio. Join the lads as singer and pianist Tim Freedman, long-time drummer Terepai Richmond and renowned bassist Ian Peres (Wolfmother) deliver all the band’s greatest hits including Gough (1993), I Make Hamburgers (1995) and chart-toppers No Aphrodisiac (1997) and Blow Up the Pokies (1999). With multiple ARIA awards and several gold and platinum albums, The Whitlams’ live show is not to be missed.

Tarago Truffle Hunts

When: Saturday 18 June, 10:30 am – 1:30 pm
Where: 173 Willandra Lane, Tarago
Cost: Tickets from $90 pp.

A ‘hands on’ winter truffle hunt is taking place this Saturday in Tarago. Hunt with the harvesters and truffle dogs and get down and dirty as you help dig for the elusive fabled fungi from under the trees. The season runs from early June through to the beginning of September, all subject to the prevailing weather conditions. Bookings can now be made for any of their Saturday hunts by emailing [email protected] or calling (02) 4849 4605.

Windellama Country Markets

When: Sunday 19 June, 9 am – 1 pm
Where: Windellama Road, Windellama
Cost: Free entry.

The Windellama Hall Markets are held on the third Sunday of every month and are back this Sunday from 9 am. With plenty of stalls selling homemade jams and preserves, pre-loved toys and tools, locally produced honey, bric-a-brac, various plants, gourmet foods, wooden toys, skincare products and everything for the sewing enthusiasts, there’s something for everyone. As well as plenty of stalls to shop from, home-cooked hot food and refreshments are available together with fabulous cupcakes and sweet slices.
