There are plenty of things to do in the region this week, especially if you love musicals, live music, circuses and markets.

Running all weekend is the feel-good family musical Goldilocks and the Three Bros at the Bega Uniting Church Auditorium.

On Friday, budding cartoonists aged 10 to 14 can join cartoonist Louie Joyce in a visual storytelling (comic) workshop. You can also catch The Final Sin at the Civic Theatre in Wagga Wagga or The Superstars of Country concert featuring Jason Owen and Hayley Jensen in Queanbeyan.

To kick off the weekend, on Saturday in Merimbula The Year Of Magical Thinking tells the story of Joan Didion’s life after the sudden death of her husband, Angela Lount and Leo Joseph perform jazz, blues and soul music in Yass, the Curious Chaotic Cabaret brings drag queens, music, comedy and circus acts to Wagga Wagga and Jason Owen takes to the stage again in the Superstars of Country concert in Goulburn.

Ending the weekend, Cronulla duo Matt and Dylan perform their best country hits in Tilba and Moss Vale holds their annual Christmas in July Market.

Goldilocks and the Three Bros

Have you ever wondered what would happen if all your favourite fairytales collided in one theatrical performance? Head to the Bega Uniting Church Auditorium from this Friday to find out. Goldilocks and The Three Bros is a pantomime of fairytale hilarity guaranteed to have the whole family laughing.

Cartooning Workshop with Louie Joyce

Budding cartoonists and artists aged 10 to 14 are invited to join award-winning comic creator and illustrator Louie Joyce, to learn the basics of visual storytelling, world-building and drawing techniques. Participants will create their own comic books. Joyce has taught at the University of Wollongong, Museum of Contemporary Art, Wollongong Art Gallery, The Australian Comic Arts Festival, Comic Gong, JMC Academy and UTS Sydney, as well as at libraries, events and schools across NSW.

The Final Sin

In this theatrical performance protagonist Lilith discovers murder is easy, love is hard and happiness is earned. When happiness falls apart and love leaves, she embarks on an existential quest for vengeance. Produced by The Persona Collective and written and directed by Keeden Hendriks, this show is part of The Curious Oddball Takeover.

The Superstars Of Country: Then and Now

When: Friday 15 July, 7 pm
Where: Royal Hotel Queanbeyan, 85 Monaro St, Queanbeyan

Popular Australian country music artists Jason Owen and Hayley Jensen are bringing their national tour The Superstars of Country: Then and Now to Queanbeyan. The two-hour showcase features covers of classic songs from internationally renowned country artists such as Dolly, Denver, Underwood and Urban. Expect a tasteful mix of ballads, up-tempo numbers, solos, medleys and moving duets, as well as original songs performed by two fabulous Australian musicians.

In this critically-acclaimed solo performance, Joan Didion’s celebrated memoir is brought to life by Green Room Award-winning actor Jillian Murray. The Year Of Magical Thinking is a highly personal account of loss through the lens of hope, unpacking a surreal and overwhelming time in Joan Didion’s life as she faces the sudden loss of her husband John and later her daughter Quintana. This joyful, fun and deeply moving tale of a woman’s journey to find acceptance and learn lessons along the way is not to be missed.

Yass’ home to good wine, live music and delicious food, Yazzbar is set to host fabulous live music from the talented Angela Lount and Leo Joseph. Coming together for a special performance, expect the best of jazz, soul, blues and funk music.

Join The Vaudeville Collective as they present some of The Curious Rabbit’s favourite performers doing what they do best in the Curious Chaotic Cabaret. Drag, music, improvised theatre and circus performances abound featuring Rose Quartz and her court of drag royalty, Dizzy Dilemma and Hooly Dooly. This show is part of The Curious Oddball Takeover.

They recently released their debut EP Jack’s Motel and performed at Sydney’s Factory Theatre and Cronulla’s Jazz and Blues Festival. Now Cronulla duo Matt and Dylan, known as the Sons of Atticus, are set to perform some of their best original country tunes in Tilba.

Moss Vale Showground hosts the Moss Vale Christmas in July Market this Sunday, featuring wares from many local artisans. Think handmade crafts, jams, relishes, soaps, candles, giftwares and art. There will also be plenty of live music, rides and fun activities for kids including miniature train rides running throughout the day. With plenty of parking, a beautiful location and a pet-friendly environment, the whole family can share in the festive spirit.
