Drivers on Mount Darragh Road on the NSW South Coast will need to slow down with speed limits between South Pambula and Cathcart being reduced from Tuesday, 16 June.
“We are committed to providing safer journeys for motorists along rural roads, including Mount Darragh Road,” said Jo Parrott, Transport for NSW regional director, southern. “The speed limit for Mount Darragh Road was reviewed after concerns were raised by residents about the high crash rate in the area.
“Steps have been taken to make the road safer through shoulder widening and installing safety barriers, with speed limit reductions being the next step in delivering a safer road for all motorists.”
The road’s speed zone review assessed a number of factors including its crash history; road alignment; road environment and hazards; road usage; adjacent development; traffic volumes; and its number of access points.
Trip times are expected to be unchanged as motorists will be able to travel at speeds more consistent with the surrounding environment.
The changes reduce the current speed limit of 100km/h down to 80km/h, and in some places 60km/h.
Motorists are urged to take note of the new speed limits.
