Businesses in the Snowy Valleys are setting their sights on the lucrative adventure tourism market with a new campaign aimed at helping locals connect with visiting thrill-seekers and explorers.
With growing numbers of visitors attracted to the region’s adventure trails and tracks, Adventure Snowy Valleys will point them to the wealth of unique goods and services supplied by local businesses.
The venture is being launched by Business Snowy Valleys and the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal, and local cycling, mountain bike, kayak, walking, horse-riding and running groups have been invited to submit their favourite spots.
Submissions will be assessed and uploaded to the Adventure Snowy Valleys website along with appropriate links to nearby businesses.
“The idea is that users will come to the Adventure Snowy Valleys website and be able to find the style of trails they are looking for based on type and also location,” explained project lead Matt Lucas.
“Their search results are then linked to local businesses.
“Users can download the trail maps they like from the Adventure Snowy Valleys website, directly to their own devices. We are using Strava to track and map our trails and we invite clubs and organisations to submit their favourite trails to us.”
The website will cater to adventurers of all types and abilities, from low-key ramblers to hard-core climbers and riders, and each trail will have a difficulty rating.
The website will also feature many of the region’s more picturesque, family-friendly and accessible tracks.
“We really want people to come and share our backyard,” Mr Lucas said.
”Adventure Snowy Valleys will connect visitors to authentic outdoor experiences, with extensive trails mapped for every level of experience, plus quality businesses and services to make their adventure one to remember.”
The project will target the surrounding regions along with Sydney and Canberra, with extensive promotion including a highway billboard, social media advertising and promotion through regional visitor information centres.
Local businesses around Tumut, Batlow, Adelong and Talbingo can sign up free until 30 June, 2025, through Business Snowy Valleys, and clubs and organisations right across the Snowy Valleys region are invited to add their listing and make their suggestions.
