A career police officer with time in western New South Wales is the new boss of the South Coast Police District.

Southern Region Commander, Acting Assistant Commissioner Chris Craner APM, has announced the appointment of Superintendent Greg Moore as new commander.

Assistant Commissioner Craner says Supt Moore brings a wealth of experience to the region, having joined the NSW Police Force in October 1987.

Initially stationed in the Ashfield area of Sydney, Supt Moore spent four years in general duties before moving into an investigator’s role in Sydney’s inner west.

He continued to investigate serious crime as a detective in Sydney until 2003, before transferring to Bourke in the state’s Far North West with his newborn twins and wife, Maggie.

He was promoted to Inspector in 2004 and transferred to the Richmond Local Area Command in 2007, where he spent four years as Crime Manager.

He returned to Bourke in 2013 as the Local Area Commander.

Supt Moore says his time in Bourke has given him great exposure to regional New South Wales.

“I was fortunate to be based in Bourke during a time of opportunity and experimentation in community-driven problem solving and social policy development,” Supt Moore says.

“We had some impressive early social outcomes and crime reduction in Bourke and surrounding communities as a result, and it’s something I would love to bring to the South Coast region.”

Supt Moore says one of his main focuses will be on working with the community to prevent crimes before they happen.

“We’ve seen some great results with crime prevention across the South Coast Police District in recent years, and I want to continue to build on this great work to ensure we’re tackling crime before it starts,” he says.

“Helping young people make good decisions and linking in with them before issues arise will be another key focus.

“I look forward to working closely with the entire South Coast community.”

While based in Nowra, Supt Moore has oversite of stations through the Shoalhaven, Eurobodalla and Bega Valley including Berry, Huskinson, Batemans Bay, Moruya, Bemboka, Bermagui, Candelo and Eden.

South Coast Police District forms part of the Southern Region Command of NSW Police.
