Far South Coast students will join in with the global movement ‘School Strike 4 Climate’ this Friday in Moruya and Bega. Students are calling for urgent political action on climate change in solidarity with bushfire victims.
Local Moruya students have organised a sit-in at the Eurobodalla Council chambers.
Strikers are asked to bring an eco-friendly picnic and loose change to donate to people affected by bushfires. Young local musicians will be performing as part of the protest.
School students will be joined by adults who we have invited to walk out for the day in solidarity.
Chloe, one of the climate striking students says, “we want to be part of the movement to build a better world for future generations.”
“I think it is so important to address climate change now as we have lacked to address it in the past. I think the strike is an amazing movement which is already making a huge impact.”

Fellow striker Isabel adds, “we were inspired to host a strike because at the last strike it was an adult run strike, and we wanted more young people to be leading things.”
“So, me and my friends jumped into the deep end and decided to organise a school strike. At first, I was very stressed, but with the help of advice from adults, a lot of emails, phone calls, procrastination and social media we managed to set up an event.”
School strikes are taking place in over 55 locations in Australia and 100 countries worldwide.
The Australian school strike movement was started last year by students in Central Victoria who were inspired by 15-year-old Swedish student Greta Thunberg, who started striking in August 2018 and now strikes every Friday.
School Strike 4 Climate will be on Friday, November 29 at 1:40 pm on Vulcan St, Moruya, in front of the Council chambers, and in Bega, at Littleton Gardens between 11 am and 1 pm. More info – HERE.
