A quiet rural retreat just a hop, skip and jump to Canberra? It is possible. And here it is.

Ray White Canberra Licensed Real Estate Agent Mark Johnstone says the 33-acre 104 Brooks Road in Bywong is something special.

“In so many ways, the property is unique,” he says. “There’s nothing to compare it to in the area.”

The property includes two houses on gently undulating land, 15 minutes from Canberra’s northern suburbs.

“The land is a mix of open pasture and established trees, with plenty of water, including from two lake-size dams and the two creeks running through it,” Mark says.

You can see the countryside views from the Mediterranean-style brick homestead overlooking the creek.

It features four bedrooms, a courtyard for entertaining, a custom-designed kitchen and modern bathrooms.

If you’re after an easy second income, the property also houses a separate cottage. And as Mark notes, “because of Bywong’s proximity to Canberra, there’s always demand for accommodation”.

“This rustic style of accommodation is particularly popular with city people from places like Sydney who prefer staying in a country retreat rather than a motel when they come to Canberra.”

The home is currently a working bed-and-breakfast and has four bedrooms and two bathrooms.

“It is so successful that for weekend bookings, it is booked out six months in advance,” Mark says.

Your guests (or you) can sit under the covered outdoor entertaining area or by the combustion fireplace to relax after a long day.

Both the main house and the cottage have electric and solar hot water.

The homes were also renovated by the current owners and have custom furnishings throughout.

“The owners brought the property over two years ago, and they’ve put a lot of money and a lot of effort into bringing it to life,” Mark says.

“The furnishings have all been individually selected by the owner, a professional interior designer, so they fit these homes perfectly.”

The property used to be part of a winery – and the cellar door infrastructure remains.

“The cellar door shed has been revived, meaning it can recommence being a cellar door, or it can be a very special entertaining area,” Mark says.

Mark says this property would suit a wide range of potential buyers.

“It would suit buyers who want to commute into Canberra, or those who want to earn extra income using the second residence as a rental or a bed-and-breakfast, run a hospitality business from the cellar door, or may just run some stock on the acreage,” he says.

“If someone just wants a peaceful lifestyle without running a business, they could perhaps rent out one of the houses or have extended family live in it.”

Regardless of which option they choose, Mark says the next owner can relax as all the hard work has been done.

“It’s a very peaceful environment,” he says.
