Man refused bail following Batemans Bay tomahawk attack

An 18-year-old man has been refused bail after being charged with allegedly wounding another man with a tomahawk in Batemans Bay on Tuesday (22 March).

At approximately 10:15 pm on Tuesday, emergency services attended a Beach Road, Surf Beach home following reports of a domestic violence incident between a man and a woman.

Police allege the 18-year-old man attended the property and attacked his 29-year-old male victim with a tomahawk before fleeing the scene.

Responders initially transported the 29-year-old to Batemans Bay Hospital before he was airlifted to Canberra Hospital suffering injuries to his legs and abdomen. He was in a serious but stable condition.

South Coast Police District officers issued an arrest warrant for the 18-year-old who, following inquiries, presented to Batemans Bay Police Station at around midday on Thursday (24 March).

He is charged with one count of wound person with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm. He was refused bail at the Batemans Bay Local Court today.
