Police have arrested and charged a 54-year-old man after he allegedly kidnapped a 75-year-old woman and threw her down an embankment in the Snowy Mountains on Tuesday (2 February).
According to NSW Police, the man was found by officers hiding under a bed at a home on Elizabeth Avenue in Talbingo on Thursday evening.
He was then taken to Tumut Police Station and charged with kidnapping with the intent to commit a serious, indictable offence, occasioning actual bodily harm (domestic violence); assault occasioning actual bodily harm (domestic violence); destroying or damaging property and driving while his licence was suspended.
The man was refused bail to appear at Wagga Wagga Local Court on Friday (5 February).
In court, police will allege that the man was involved in an altercation with the woman, who is known to him, before dragging her to his car and driving along the Snowy Mountains Highway towards Talbingo Mountain where she was forced out of the vehicle and down a four-metre embankment.
Police were originally alerted to the incident by a caller on Tuesday afternoon. Officers from Riverina Police District attended and performed a vertical rescue with the assistance of the NSW State Emergency Service and NSW Ambulance paramedics.
The elderly woman was retrieved safely. However, she had sustained bruising to her face and deep lacerations to her arms and legs and was taken to Wagga Wagga Hospital for treatment.
