Eurobodalla commuters are being told to allow for extra travel time amid the long-term closure of a major thoroughfare.
In late July Eurobodalla Shire Council started work to stabilise a slope on North Head Drive, with works including road widening, upgrades to stormwater infrastructure, building of new kerb and guttering and earthworks.
A short-term road closure was initially planned, but the detection of weathered rock has seen it extended.
The road will instead be closed in both directions (during and after work hours) for three months. The closure began this week.

It will extend along a stretch of North Head Drive, east of Quarry Park for about 1.5 km (to property number 460).
“This [the weathered rock] means there is an increased risk of large rocks falling onto the road,” a council spokesperson said.
“Because of this safety risk, we need to fully close this section of North Head Drive to all traffic, including cyclists and pedestrians, for the duration of these works.”
During the closure, motorists are being asked to use the Princes Highway, Broulee Road and George Bass Drive and allow extra travel time.
“Vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians cannot pass through the closure,” the LiveTraffic NSW roadwork alert states.
“Properties either side of the site will remain accessible, but commuters should plan their journey according to which side they need to reach.”
George Bass Drive is also the only route to Moruya Airport.
More than 4000 vehicles use North Head Road every day.
According to the project’s page on Eurobodalla Shire Council’s website, the project will cost about $1,182,100, which is being covered by the Australian and NSW governments.
Further information on the project is available on council’s website.
