Cooma Little Theatre’s end of year production is the well-loved story of ‘Little Women‘.
Playwright Jacqueline Goldfinger has written a faithful adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s classic novel, first published in the 1860s and based loosely on the author’s young life.
The play begins with a memorable Christmas where Marmee leaves to visit her sick husband and Jo and sells her beautiful hair to help finance the trip. It ends a year later when the happy family is again preparing to celebrate not only Christmas but also the return of Mr March.
In between these two events, Meg, Jo, Amy and Beth go through the many trials and tribulations that have made this story a classic.
Director Nell Pernitsch has been planning this production for a couple of years and has brought together a small cast including – Caroline Fox (Marmee), Eilis French (Jo), Marcus Hildyard (Laurie), Montana O’Neill (Meg), Annabelle Redmond (Beth), Natalie Revelant (Amy) and Alexander Stewart (John).
Natalie, who grew up coming to the theatre, is 14 years old and in Year 8 at St Patrick’s School. She was a chorus member in ‘The Sound of Music’ (2018) but this is her first major role.
16-year-old Marcus is in Year 11 at Monaro High School and travels in from Nimmitabel to be part of this project; his first time on stage was earlier this year, in ‘Little Shop of Horrors’.

Annabelle Redmond is 16 years and studying Food and Nutrition through Charles Sturt University. She is accustomed to the stage as a dancer and as an actor in two previous CLT productions.
Eilis is 17 years old and in Year 11 in Canberra, where she is doing a Double Major in Drama and a Major in Music. She has been involved in theatre productions since she was just 12 but this is her first on the Cooma stage – for which she is doing a lot of travelling.
Alexander, turned 19 years old just before opening night, is currently sitting his HSC. He was most recently on stage in ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ and has been nominated for ‘Encore’ in Music for his vocal performance at school.
Montana is a Jindabyne-based artist and also designed the poster for the show. Although she has been on stage previously as part of a choir, now in her late 20s she is enjoying her first foray into acting.
Caroline Fox is the oldie of the group, playing the mother of the four Little Women.
Anyone who loves a good heartfelt story will appreciate this show, it’s said that it will make you laugh and make you cry as you journey through a year with this household of women and the two boys-next-door.
Remaining show dates – November 8, 9, 15 and 16 at 7:30 pm, and one matinee on November 9 at 2:00 pm. Tickets are available via the Cooma Little Theatre website.
