In response to public concerns and subsequent safety inspections, Snowy Monaro Regional Council has completed remediation works at Livvi’s Place playground in Jindabyne.
A favourite for local families and tourists, the playground has received renovations in the form of soft-fall resurfacing and the restoration of wooden structural elements.
Council worked closely with the Touched by Olivia Foundation, community advocates, suppliers and installation contractors to coordinate the resurfacing.
The priority was for works to be completed before the onset of heavy frosts, and it was completed on Friday, 30 April.
The old surface was unable to withstand the playground’s heavy usage and the region’s extreme seasonal changes.
The replacement soft-fall material is more durable; the wooden posts in the climbing area have been restored to a natural finish; and the yellow, high-visibility paint, which is extremely important to children with visual impairments who are using the equipment, has been touched up on the swing sets.
Snowy Monaro Regional Council Mayor Peter Beer said Livvi’s Place, at Banjo Paterson Park, is a wonderful location for families to spend time together and enjoy the alpine climate.
“Council is proud to have listened to the community and acted on their concerns, with the upgraded Livvi’s Place playground a great balance of aesthetic, functional and accessible elements,” he said.
Livvi’s Place playgrounds are an initiative of the Touched by Olivia Foundation, formed by two parents following the tragic death of their infant daughter, to create inclusive playspaces across Australia.
The national network of playspaces currently features 38 playgrounds, and the Jindabyne location is the only one in the Snowy Monaro region.
