A clever exhibition by the Eurobodalla Fibre & Textile Artists Group (EFTAG) is on at the Mechanics Institute in Moruya and Sunday is your last chance to see it!

The show is called ‘Mottainai: Re-Value’, Mottainai being a Japanese term that recognises the intrinsic value of objects and encourages using them fully or all the way to the end of their lifespan, ie – don’t be wasteful.

The range of works on display exhibit the significant talent among the group. From paper, wool, wood, thread and shellac, these sculptural and wall hung works show what creative minds can do with simple and inexpensive materials.

The intricate detail points to a keen observance of the environment, as the recycled materials are returned to natural forms. The fibre elements bring visual warmth and tactility to the forms.

EFTAG was formed in 2005 and currently has more than 40 members, most of whom reside in the Eurobodalla Shire. This creative community of artists are passionate about fibre and textile arts practice.

The group has a regular calendar of events that include member-led skills sharing and social monthly gatherings, residential workshops delivered by local, interstate and international specialists. The annual wearable art/fashion parade is a real highlight of the EFTAG and broader community calendar.

Forgive the short notice, but don’t miss out on ‘Mottainai: Re-Value’ at the Mechanics Institute, Page St, Moruya, this weekend only, open 10 am to 4 pm.
