It’s time to grab your thongs and an Aussie flag because Australia Day celebrations are gearing up across southern NSW, from community barbecues to live music on the green, awards, vintage car displays, market stalls, sausage sizzles and even a kayak race.

Goulburn Mulwaree

Enjoy a free barbecue breakfast from 7.30 am until 9 am before taking in the music, amusements and market at Victoria Park in Goulburn. The official ceremony commences at 10 am and will include awards and citizenship ceremonies and an address from Goulburn’s 2021 Australia Day Ambassador, hockey champion Glenn Turner.

In the afternoon, the inaugural kayak race on Wollondilly River will commence at 3.30 pm. The Goulburn Aquatic and Leisure Centre will have free entry all day with an inflatable aqua run from 11 am until 2 pm. For more information, click here.

Yass Valley

Yass Valley’s official Australia Day event will begin at 7.30 am with breakfast and tea/coffee served in Coronation Park, Yass, by the local Country Women’s Association and Rotary Club. The ceremony and announcement of the 2021 award recipients will commence at 8 am and be presented by Yass Valley Australia Day Ambassador, 22-year-old scientific inventor Ethan Butson. Upper Lachlan Shire

Don’t miss the Australia Day breakfast, ceremony and awards in Crookwell and Gunning on Tuesday, 26 January. Theatrical director and Member of the Order of Australia, Sandra Bates, has been announced as the Upper Lachlan Shire’s Australia Day Ambassador, and she will speak at both events.

Due to COVID-19, the Gunning event has been moved from Barbour Park to Gunning Shire Hall to help manage numbers, while the Taralga event has been cancelled.

The Australia Day ceremony and breakfast in Gunning will begin at 8 am and people are encouraged to wear masks.

The Crookwell ceremony and breakfast will begin at Crookwell Memorial Park at 8.30 am. People must register via the Crookwell Visitor Information Centre on 02 4832 1988, or book online here.

Hilltops

The towns of Boorowa, Harden, Young, and Wombat village have events scheduled this year. Better Homes and Gardens presenter Graham Ross will speak at celebrations at Newson Park in Harden, and Wagenbah Oval in Wombat. Breakfast and local music will entertain locals in Harden from 8 am, while a tractor pull, vintage cars, market stalls and free sausage sizzle will put smiles on faces in Wombat from 10 am.

In Boorowa, an official flag-raising ceremony, speeches and awards presentation will be held at the Boorowa Ex-Services Club. This will be followed by lunch at 12.30 pm and afternoon activities including bowls, a children’s fun run, balladeers, yarn spinners and golf.

Eurobodalla

Many of Eurobodalla’s Australia Day events have been cancelled due to COVID-19, however there will be markets and live music across the region to keep you entertained. Enjoy a chilled afternoon of great music by Robz Simpson, great beer and great company at the Dromedary Hotel (14 Bate Street, Central Tilba) from 4 pm, or take the children to Country Pumpkins on the Green from 3 pm on Monash Avenue at Tuross Head. The popular SAGE Farmers Market will also return to Riverside Park at Moruya from 3 pm. For more information, click here.

Bega Valley

COVIDSafe Australia Day celebrations will begin at 7 am with a free breakfast in Bega’s Littleton Gardens, followed by a celebration of Bega Valley’s 2021 Australia Day Award winners at 8.30 am, including Citizen of the Year, Acting Sergeant Bradley Ross; Senior Citizen of the Year, Susan Bear; and Young Citizen of the Year, Benjamin Neville. Snowy Monaro

Australia Day Awards will be announced at Bombala, Cooma and Jindabyne. Cooma Car Club is organising all the action at Centennial Park, Cooma, starting with a breakfast at 7.30 am, followed by live music, activities and car displays from 10 am, and an official ceremony at 12 pm.

At Jindabyne’s Banjo Paterson Park, the local Lions Club will be running a barbecue from 9 am, followed by the Citizen of the Year Awards. For more information, click here.
