Police blasted the “hoon behaviour” of dangerous drivers after a man was arrested and had his car confiscated for allegedly performing burnouts on the NSW Far South Coast.

Four burnout offences allegedly occurred in the towns of Tomakin and Moruya in October 2024 and January 2025, a South Coast Police District spokesperson said.

On Monday (20 January), police arrested and charged a 53-year-old man from Broulee over the alleged offences.

Police also confiscated the man’s car for three months and suspended his driver’s licence.

“Hoon behaviour such as this will never be tolerated,” Chief Inspector John Sheehan from Batemans Bay Police said.

“There is a real danger to pedestrians and other motorists with this type of reckless conduct.

“Police will use every resource to locate offenders and utilise vehicle sanctions to seize vehicles.”

The 53-year-old man did receive bail.

He is scheduled to face the Batemans Bay Local Court on 17 February.

Meanwhile, across the border in the ACT, the Territory’s police detected 98 drivers under the influence of alcohol or who had drugs in their systems in December 2024.

Their operation follows an earlier one in November 2024, when almost 700 drivers were caught speeding in Canberra that month alone.
