UPDATE December 3, 1:30 pm: The NSW police minister has confirmed her driver has been charged with high-range drink driving.
On Wednesday (3 December), Minister for Police and Counter-terrorism Yasmin Catley briefly addressed the matter during a press conference on the South Coast.
She confirmed that she was aware of the allegations and said she had spoken to him.
“The circumstances around this incident are very concerning. It is illegal to drink and drive in this state, and no one is above the law.”
Ms Catley refused to answer further questions, including if the 55-year-old was driving a ministerial car at the time or if he would remain as her driver.
“This matter is now before the court, and I will not be making further comments,” she said.
She was in Bega on Wednesday to mark the official opening of the town’s new $23 million police station.

December 3, 10:10 am: A NSW Government employee will face court later this month after being accused of drink-driving.
A NSW Police spokesperson said that at about 2:50 pm yesterday (2 December), officers attached to the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command were patrolling in the Bemboka area about 35 km west of Bega when it was reported a Toyota Prado was allegedly driving dangerously.
Following a search of the area, officers found the Toyota parked on the Snowy Mountains Highway at about 3:50 pm.
A 55-year-old man, who police say is employed by the NSW Government as a driver, was subjected to a roadside breath test.
He allegedly returned a positive result.
He was arrested and taken to Bega Police Station, where he allegedly returned a breath analysis reading of 0.183.
Police charged him with driving with a high range PCA and his licence was suspended.
