UPDATED 2:45 pm: A man and woman are in custody as inquiries continue into the death of four people following a crash in the Riverina last night.
Emergency services responded to reports of an accident at the intersection of Research Road and Toorak Road, Yanco, south of Leeton.
A Hyundai Getz had crashed into a pole and rolled down an embankment and into a water channel.
A 36-year-old woman and three boys aged 10, 11 and 12 were declared deceased at the scene and are yet to be formally identified.
Officers from the Murrumbidgee Police District established a crime scene with specialist officers from the Crash Investigation Unit.
Detectives commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash and visited a unit in Griffith just before 8 am this morning (5 April).
Investigators spoke to a 32-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman, who were subsequently arrested and taken to Griffith Police Station where they remain in custody.
Inquiries continue.
8:00 am: A woman and three young boys have died after a single-vehicle crash in the Riverina overnight.
Shortly after 11 pm last night, emergency services responded to reports that a vehicle had crashed into a pole and veered down an embankment into a water channel onto its roof at the intersection of Research Road and Toorak Road, Yanco – approximately 7 km south of Leeton.
All four occupants of the vehicle died at the scene before the arrival of emergency services.
Whilst yet to be formally identified, the occupants are believed to be a 36-year-old woman and three boys aged 10, 11 and 12 who are all related to one another.
Police have established a crime scene and specialists are investigating.
