Four new trainees have recently stepped into positions with Eurobodalla Council as part of a two-year training period.

Stella Dennis, Natasha Marsh, Ryles Walters, Lexus Croser and Jonathon Lalor are all taking part in the council’s new Youth Employment Trainee Scheme.

Ms Dennis has spent a few weeks working at Eurobodalla Council managing the switchboard and handling inquiries at the customer service desk.

“Since starting the traineeship, I have already seen so many opportunities,” Ms Dennis said.

“There are so many different occupations here at council, with so many areas of growth.”

Over the coming two years, the trainees will work in four areas: customer service, development, infrastructure, and stores and procurement.

As part of the traineeship, participants have study days at Moruya TAFE to complete a Certificate IV in Business.

Ms Dennis said she’d initially enrolled to study nursing, but realised during a gap year that she wanted something different from life.

“My stomach has grown weaker over the years!” she said.

“I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do anymore so I took a gap year and worked in hospitality.”

When the traineeship was advertised, Ms Dennis said she was quick to apply.

“I heard council looks after you and it’s actually good pay for a trainee, plus I will get a Certificate in Business out of it, which I could take anywhere,” she said.

Ms Dennis said school leavers should consider traineeships as they look to start their careers.

“I am loving my new work hours – not having to work nights and knowing I can take paid leave over the holidays is unreal.”

Eurobodalla residents can see employment opportunities on the council’s website.
