Moruya’s Basil Sellers Exhibition Centre is calling for submissions for its 2021 exhibition program.
The arts centre, which opened in February 2019 and is affectionately known as ‘the Bas’, is currently closed until June 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, this period of enforced social isolation provides an opportunity for artists to view it as a quasi artists-in-residence program.
Eurobodalla Council’s arts and culture coordinator Indi Carmichael says the Bas celebrates local and national creative arts and contemporary culture.
“We encourage artists from all backgrounds and levels of experience to apply for either solo or group exhibitions – successful applicants will receive a four-week exhibition slot, as well as support with the development of their exhibition,” she says.
Applications are open to individuals, groups, organisations and institutions. However, priority will be given to submissions from Eurobodalla artists.
Ms Carmichael says that since opening last year, the Bas has established a reputation for showcasing quality regional arts with unique local content supported by perfectly picked shows from outside the region.
“Really, the Bas is a creative hive. It’s something totally delicious our local artists can jump right into. It’s great to see our annual program really building cultural capital for the benefit of residents and visitors.”
In addition to successful submissions, 2021 exhibitions will include returning favourites such as River of Art and the ReVive Art Prize. Also, new spaces at the centre provide for complementary activities such as workshops, events and education programs.
Submissions close at 4 pm on Friday 8 May. Lodge submissions and find more information at thebas.com.au, or contact [email protected] or call 02 4474 1061.
