With the 2020 River of Art Festival scheduled to start in September, artists are being urged to enter their work in this year’s festival art prize.
Working within COVID-19 restrictions, the festival’s art prize will be a highlight of the Eurobodalla’s annual celebration of the region’s rich artistic life.
Now in its 15th year, arts events will be held from Durras to Bermagui, and this year’s theme is ‘resilience and renewal’ to reflect the region’s response to the past summer’s bushfires and now the pandemic.
Despite limitations imposed by COVID-19, this year’s River of Art Festival will include Open Studios, exhibitions and Art on Parade. The final program will be available on the River of Art website later this month.
The winning artist will receive $2000, with $250 going to the runner-up. The artwork most highly commended will be awarded $100. Finalists will be selected by a panel of judges comprising three well-known professional artists.
The award ceremony will be held at Narooma’s SoART Gallery, where all finalists will be exhibited. Digital images of finalists’ work will also be exhibited online.
Given COVID-19 restrictions on galleries, digital images of artists’ work which was not shortlisted will also be exhibited in an online Salon de Refusés on the River of Art website.
The exhibitions at SoART and online will run for the duration of this year’s festival, from 18 September until 27 September, 2020.
Artists have until 21 August to submit their entries electronically via the online application form which can be found on the festival’s website.
Alternatively, artists can download the online application form, complete their details, scan and email it – including digital images – to [email protected]. The cost of entry is $25 per work.
River of Art is supported by the NSW Government through Destination NSW, and Eurobodalla Shire Council.
