Eight things to do in the regions this week (8 - 14 November)

There’s so much to see and do this coming week across the region, whether you’re in the mood for nostalgic musical retrospectives, insightful lectures or some live music and nibbles.

Narooma Traditional Boats Afloat Festival

When: 9 November from noon, 10 November from 10 am
Where: Narooma Marina in Forsters Bay
Cost: Free.

The annual Narooma Boats Afloat Festival is back. The mariners encourage the public to spend some time on the boats at the marina, where the Montague Arts and Craft Society will be holding an exhibition in the boatsheds. On Sunday the community will gather for the grand parade of boats, where enthusiasts will be able to show off their traditional wooden vessels in a procession on the water.

Cooma LEGO Brick Show 2024

When: 9 November 10 am to 4 pm, 10 November 10 am to 2 pm
Where: Cooma Multi-Function Centre 10 Boundary St, Cooma
Cost: Tickets from $10 to $45.

The Cooma LEGO brick show is an extravaganza of all things LEGO, with more than 50 tables of unique custom-built LEGO models on display – with themes ranging from pop culture to architecture, there’s something for adults and kids alike.

There are play tables where kids get to turn their creativity into reality, as well as a massive mosaic build where each visitor can contribute.

Convoy For Kids Goulburn

When: 9 November
Where: 45 Braidwood Road, Goulburn
Cost: Event is free, fundraising and donations encouraged.

Goulburn comes out on Convoy for Kids Day to show support for children with cancer or disabilities. The main event is the truck convoy from the gateway service station to the showground. There’s entertainment from local talent, raffles, displays and carnival rides.

There’s no better way to get out and support your local community. There’s plenty of ways to help the cause so check out the website for more info.

Beats and Bites

When: 10 November, 2 to 6 pm
Where: 29 Kunzea Place Springvale
Cost: All tickets $50.

Bring a picnic blanket to Food I Am and listen to some local musical talent, The Peach Tree Dreamer Band. There’ll be drinks, snacks and music and included in the ticket price is a little grazing box of finger food. Bring some mates and enjoy the warm afternoon weather while overlooking town.

Remembrance Day Goulburn

When: 11 November, 10:15 am – 12:30 pm
Where: Rocky Hill War Memorial Tower
Cost: Free.

Commemorating the end of the First World War is an important tradition in Australia. Connecting us with the sacrifices of the past, we can earnestly reflect on the impact of war upon past and current generations. Lay a wreath or simply stand and silently reflect to pay respects to a generation of Australians we remember with solemnity each year.

Moruya Country Market

When: 9 November, 8 am to 12:30 pm
Where: Riverside Park, Moruya
Cost: Free.

There are more than 140 stalls at the Moruya Country Market selling all sorts of things – preloved books, handmade arts and crafts, homemade food, clothes, knick-knacks and drinks. It’s along the banks of the beautiful Moruya River, so you can browse with a view. It’s a great place to get a one-of-a-kind gift for a loved one.

Barrie Cassidy – The Fragility of Democracy

When: 14 November, 5:30 to 8 pm
Where: CSU Riverina Playhouse, 8 Cross Street Wagga Wagga
Cost: Tickets from $15 to $25.

Barrie Cassidy, one of Australia’s most experienced political correspondants, digs deep into the Australia-America relationship regarding trade, foreign policy and security issues. He will analyse America’s current political position and whether it can be changed. It’s sure to be a thought-provoking discussion and a great opportunity to get answers to often wondered questions about a complex and storied history.

The Boney M Xperience and Fabba

Relive some classic 80s nostalgia by dancing and singing along to some classic Boney M and Abba hits at this euro-pop tribute performance. There’ll be timeless hits such as Dancing Queen and Take a Chance on Me by Abba and Boney M’s Ma Baker and Rivers of Babylon. It’s going to be a must-see event for anyone in the region.
