Mary Poppins

You won’t need a spoonful of sugar to make this news go down! The Rocky Hill Musical Theatre Company’s production of Mary Poppins is set to finish soon – but the good news is there are still several shows. Head along and enjoy the story of the Banks family as they meet someone very special (and very magical). This musical brings together classic songs like Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious and Chim Chim Cher-ee in a reminder of the power of family.
There is always beauty… exhibition
When: 3 August to 1 September, 10 am to 2 pm (Monday and Friday), 10 am to 4 pm (Saturdays) and 11 am to 3 pm (Sundays)

Cost: Free entry.
This collection of tapestries and paintings from Shunyam Smith explores how beauty can come from pain, trauma and devastation. She travelled the alpine regions of Victoria and Queensland in the aftermath of bushfires, seeing the landscape transform from its burnt form into new life. An official opening will be held from 2 pm on Saturday (3 August), with everyone invited to hear from Shunyam about her work.

Winter Truffle Hunting
When: Dates between 15 June and 10 August
Where: Gulaga Gold, 701 Reedy Creek Road, Cobargo
Cost: Tickets cost between $100 and $300 (depending on package purchased) and are available via the venue’s website.
Your nose won’t be as keen as a dog, but you can still search for some truffles in this hunt. Gulaga Gold runs hunts between 15 June and 10 August, with this winter session to finish on 10 August. But don’t fret – there’s still chances for you to snap up some of the truffle treat.
Big Deck Energy
When: 3 August, 1 to 3 pm
Where: Black Sallees Deck, Thredbo Resort, Thredbo
Cost: Free entry.
This is a party for adults (sorry kids). Resident DJ Bailey will spin some tunes that will get you ready to groove all night long. With drink specials, dance floor starters and mountain vibes, it’s the perfect place to shake off the winter chill – and maybe even be the perfect spot for some fun before the Jungle Giants’ DJ set later on in the Alpine Bar.
Luke Heggie Grogan
When: 3 August, 7 to 8 pm
Where: CSU Riverina Playhouse, 8 Cross Street, Wagga Wagga
Cost: Tickets cost $34 and can be purchased via Ticket Search.
Join Luke Heggie Grogan as he humorously tries to navigate the trials of daily life, the importance of personal responsibility and society’s flaws. He recently discovered that a slip of the tongue – now more commonly known as “his true colours” – and that salted caramel was not just a fad.

Relax at Yass with author Margaret Hickey as she sits down for a chat with Barbie Robinson. Margaret has a new book out, The Creeper, so head along to hear about the chilling mystery.
Thursday
The Offering
When: 8 August, from 7:30 pm
Where: Queanbeyan Performing Arts Centre (The B), 253 Crawford Street, Queanbeyan
Cost: Tickets cost between $30 and $55 and are available from the Performing Arts Centre’s website.
Coming to Queanbeyan is a one-night show. The Offering is a partnership between Omar Musa (multiple award-winning Australian author, poet and rapper) and Mariel Roberts (internationally renowned American cellist and composer). Together, they use music, poetry, and elements of theatre performance to explore environmental damage, our sense of belonging, and how we can connect across borders, using Omar’s family history in Southeast Asia as inspiration. When the protagonist from a country torn apart by ecological collapse and climate change travels across a plastic ocean towards a mythical volcano, he comes across something unexpected amid the destruction.
La Boheme

On a freezing Christmas Eve, a love story starts when two hands meet in the dark. When Mimi meets Rodolfo, it changes their lives – and their friends’ lives – forever. The couple head out to the bustling Cafe Momus, where the feisty Musetta and Marcello try to rekindle their relationship. This tour of La Boheme is visiting NSW, Victoria and Tasmania in 2024, taking the opera across the country under director Dean Bryant.
