UPDATED: Driver killed in four truck crash on the Hume Highway near Gundagai

UPDATE: 11:30 Friday, Jan 3: Southbound lanes of the Hume Highway have reopened between Jugiong and Coolac north of Gundagai in the wake of a fatal accident overnight.

The northbound carriageway is expected to be closed for most of the day for ongoing police investigations, vehicle salvage and clean-up.

One driver was killed in a collision between four trucks at about 1:45 am on Spring Dam Road at Coolac.

The man died at the scene and is yet to be formally identified.

7:50 am Friday, Jan 3:

One person has died and three have been taken to hospital after four trucks collided on the Hume Highway north of Gundagai.

A police operation is underway, and the highway is expected to remain closed for a number of hours.

At about 1:45 am this morning (3 January), emergency services were called to the Hume Highway, near Spring Dam Road, Coolac, 18 kilometres north of Gundagai, following reports of a multi-vehicle crash.

Officers from the Hume and Riverina police districts attended the scene and found that four trucks had collided.

One driver died at the scene and is yet to be formally identified.

Three drivers were treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

Police have established a crime scene and have commenced an investigation into the incident.

The Hume Highway is closed southbound and is expected to be closed northbound, between Coolac and Jugiong Hill, for a number of hours.
