Upper Lachlan Shire Council has named the new Crookwell Memorial Oval building after Hockeyroos player Emily Chalker.
Ms Chalker grew up in Crookwell and the town has watched her hockey career progress with admiration.
She was the youngest member of the Hockeyroos team to compete at the 2012 London Olympics and was on the team that won a gold medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Ms Chalker also helped her team win a silver medal at the 2014 World Cup in the Netherlands.

“A town couldn’t ask for a better ambassador than Emily Chalker,” said Upper Lachlan Shire Council general manager Colleen Worthy.
“On the hockey pitch, she has played 249 games and scored 84 goals, and with the 2021 Olympics around the corner – her third Olympic Games – that’s only going to grow.
“But off the field, she has maintained strong links with the community and frequently references her home town with affection.
“Last Christmas, she recorded water safety commercials for council and she recently helped out the Crookwell Green Devils [rugby league club] in its quest for the title of Australia’s Best Beanie.

“She is widely regarded as one of the friendliest and most approachable players in the game and brings nothing but credit to her family and community.”
Council had requested expressions of interest for the naming of the building and received two strong submissions.
One was for Ms Chalker, detailing her efforts and achievements in hockey both domestically and abroad, and the other was for the Druett family, detailing their long history in the area and the family’s considerable achievements.
The new building provides amenities for players on the oval and a gym for the community.
