Looking for some family fun for the long weekend? Willing to step up and try a few old-fashioned tests of skill and strength? The Araluen Sports Day is held annually on the Saturday (October 5) of October long weekend.
Sounded by the backdrop of mountains in the beautiful Araluen Valley this historic event includes fun activities for all the family with a combined total prize pool of over $3,500.
On the day, a round of the NSW Axeman Association competition will show off their skills with the woodchop – always a thrill for spectators.
The sports day will also include exhibitions of tractors and vintage car exhibitions, dog jumping competition and whip cracking demonstrations.
A Ute Show & Shine is open for you to enter with a trophy to win and $100 cash for each category – Work Ute, Best Kept, 4WD and Classic.
Everybody is invited to participate with events including the ever-popular Pie Eating Competition, Rugby Hit-the-Target, Gumboot Toss and Cowpat Discus.
Win $100 in the Guess the Ram’s Weight, have a go at the Dummy Spit Competition, Cross Cut Saw and Nail Drive Competition.
Horizontal Bungee is a massive test of strength and is guaranteed to have the crowd cheering.
Other events include the Hit The Target Competition, Ladies & Kid’s Boot Throw, Egg and Spoon races for young and old, Sack and Three-legged Races for the kids.
The Tug-o-war will again be hard fought between the Araluen and Braidwood teams.
An historic display will be held in the Araluen Federation Hall which highlights the rich history of the Araluen region.
There will be food and market stalls, bar facilities for over 18’s, live entertainment, and Braidwood community radio will be broadcasting live.
Gates at the Araluen Recreation Ground open from 10.00 am Saturday (October 5), general admission is $10 with children under 15 years FREE.
Araluen is 27 km from Braidwood (26 Minutes) and 55km from Moruya (1.5 hours) via the beautiful but unsealed road through the Deua River Valley.
