Cooma Red Devils Rugby Union Club has received NSW Government funding of $30,000 to build a new canteen and kitchen at its home ground, Rotary Oval, with Member for Monaro John Barilaro presenting the club with a cheque last Friday (18 May).
Plans for the canteen and kitchen are under way, with construction due to start soon.
Mr Barilaro said the Cooma club truly deserved the funding.
“Backed by volunteers and fundraising, it is great to be able to help the club out with funding for a new canteen,” Mr Barilaro said.
“It can be pretty hard to brave the Cooma weather for training during the week or for games on the weekend, so I know that the community will appreciate a new canteen with the facilities to provide plenty of warm snacks and hot drinks. I know the club is very excited for their new facility.”
Mr Barilaro said the funding was secured under the NSW Government’s 2017 Community Building Partnership Program which saw $300,000 in funding spread across groups and causes in the Monaro.
The Community Building Partnership program has just opened up again for 2018 and this year there is $330,000 to allocate to projects in the Monaro.
Mr Barilaro urged local community groups and organisations to enquire about the fund before applications close on Friday 15 June.
The Community Building Partnership program has awarded $275 million in funding to 12,000 community projects since it commenced in 2009.
