NSW Deputy Premier and Member for Monaro John Barilaro has announced a new primary school and high school will be built in Jindabyne.
Mr Barilaro said the new Jindabyne Education Campus will provide the community with the modern, high-quality education facilities that students and teachers deserve.
“It is crucial that we plan not just for today, but for the future,” he said. “Significant growth is projected across the region with Snowy 2.0 and the Snowy Mountains Special Activation Precinct, and this new education campus will ensure the community has the facilities it needs.
“During the 2019 election, I promised we would rebuild Jindabyne in line with the ‘Go Jindabyne’ masterplan. While we have since expanded on that commitment to include the Snowy Mountains Special Activation Precinct, addressing the future of education in Jindabyne has always been our priority.”
Proposed plans for the new schools include a covered outdoor learning area, a library, green space and administrative facilities.
Collaboration opportunities with the Jindabyne Sport and Recreation Centre, regional tertiary education providers, the Australian Institute of Sport, the Local Health District, and other government and private agencies will be sought and joint-use facilities explored within the project.
“This is an exciting opportunity and it is important to me that the community continues to play its part as we move forward with creating the Jindabyne Education Campus,” said Mr Barilaro.
“A Community Information Hub will be set up to ensure everyone has the chance to provide feedback. We have the opportunity to create a school specifically for this community and I encourage everyone to get involved.”
The Community Information Hub will be set up at Park Road and Kalkite Street, Jindabyne, from 8-11 December, 2020. Local residents will have the opportunity to meet the planning team, learn about the building process, ask questions and take part in a survey, with feedback to be used to further develop the concept design.
Registration is required to ensure current COVID-19 social distancing measures are followed. The Community Information Hub will be open on the following days:
- Tuesday, 8 December, from 8.30 am to 11.30 am, and 1.30 pm to 4.30 pm.
