On Anzac Day, communities across Queanbeyan-Palerang will pause to remember those who fought, and continue to fight, on battlefields around the world.

Thousands are expected to turn out tomorrow to pay their respects…

Majors Creek

An Anzac Day commemoration will be held in the grounds of St Stephens Church Majors Creek at 8:00 am.

The service will commence by a march led by an Australian Defence Force Academy contingent. A catafalque party will take up a place around the monument with the service commencing around 8:15 am

Guest speaker will be Major General Peter Phillips AO.MC, a former National President of the RSL and a member of the Council of the Australian War Memorial. He was a Major and Company Commander of the Third Battalion in Vietnam in 1967-68, where he was awarded the Military Cross for Gallantry.

Morning tea will follow.

Braidwood Concert

Fred Smith will perform at the Braidwood National Theatre at 4:00 pm, with songs written while working as a tribal and political advisor to Australian Forces in Uruzgan Province. Fred Smith performs his songs from the front line of Australia’s longest war, Afghanistan.

Songs like ‘The Sapper’s Lullaby’ and ‘The Dust Of Uruzgan’ resonate with all who have experienced war close at hand or from afar. Fred intersperses his songs with stories from that time, showing his gentle wit but acute understanding of a confronting period of recent history.
