Firefighters are being supported by two waterbombing aircraft to control a grass fire burning near Collector.

The out-of-control blaze was reportedly 161 hectares in size at 1:15 pm on Collector Road near Currawang, about 25 km south west of Goulburn.

A NSW Rural Fire Service spokesperson said 50 firefighters were currently on scene with about 20 vehicles.

“Smoke will be visible from the Hume and Federal Highways, so we’re asking people not to call if they see it,” they said.

“However considering the current conditions, if people do come across a fire that is unattended, with no firefighters or trucks around, do call Triple Zero so crews can respond quickly.”

The fire was called in at about 1 pm, with no indication of how it began at this stage.

It’s as there’s a total fire ban in the area, with an extreme fire danger rating.
