Man set to face court following car fire in Tumut State Forest

A 22-year-old man has been charged with multiple drug and property offences following a car fire in a Riverina forest.

Police said officers attached to Riverina Police District received a report a Toyota Prado SUV had allegedly been stolen from a property on Simpson Street, Tumut at about 6:20 am on Monday (5 February).

Following an investigation, police located the vehicle a short time later on fire in the Tumut State Forest.

Rural Fire Service crews attended and extinguished the blaze.

Police stopped a utility in the area, and after searching the vehicle, they arrested a 22-year-old man.

He was taken to Tumut Police Station and charged with four counts of possessing prohibited drugs, custody of a knife in a public place, stealing a motor vehicle and destroying or damaging property greater than $15,000.

He was granted conditional bail and will appear in Tumut Local Court on Wednesday, 10 April.
