A man has been charged with multiple firearm and break-and-enter offences amid an ongoing investigation in southern NSW.
A NSW Police spokesperson said that at about 1:30 am on 20 December 2025, police were called to an earthworks yard in Yass.
A tipper truck, an excavator and a heavy vehicle trailer (with an estimated value of $228,000) were allegedly stolen.
Officers attached to The Hume Police District responded and started inquiries.
At about 5 pm on 24 December, officers attached to the Rural Crime Prevention Team and The Hume Police District carried out a search warrant at a property in Mummel (about 20 km north-east of Goulburn).
Police seized CCTV, which was sent for forensic examination.
On 31 December, officers attached to the Rural Crime Prevention Team recovered the allegedly stolen motor vehicles and earthworks machines at a rural Mummel property.
Following police investigations, officers issued a 34-year-old man with a court attendance notice for 14 offences on Monday (9 February).
He has been handed a total of 14 charges:
- four counts of stealing a motor vehicle
- use, supply, acquire, possess a stolen firearm or part
- possessing an unauthorised firearm
- two counts of possessing ammunition without holding a licence/permit/authority
- break and enter house etc steal value >$60,000
- three counts of goods suspected stolen in/on premises (m/v)
- two counts of dishonestly possessing an interfered with unique identifier.
The spokesperson also said police believe the man was involved in other alleged offences.
“Police will also allege in court the man was involved in the alleged theft of firearms from a property in Baw Baw in November 2025 and the theft of a car from a caryard in Homebush in August 2025,” they said.
The man was refused bail and is next scheduled to appear before Goulburn Local Court on Wednesday (25 February).
Investigations are ongoing.
