The completion of a long-awaited shared path around Lake Jindabyne is now several steps closer.
Work on shared trails to connect Tyrolean Village to Kunama Estate and East Jindabyne started last week.
Snowy Monaro Regional Council will build two new trails — Section 1.1 (between Tyrolean Village and Kunama Estate, shown in pink) and Section 2.1 (between Tyrolean Village and East Jindabyne boat ramp, shown in green).

The project involves either building new trails or upgrading existing infrastructure. Image: Snowy Monaro Regional Council.
“Some informal trails and paths do exist and are used in the areas where the new trails will sit, but these will be the first formal trails to run between these points,” a council spokesperson said.
It’s all part of the wider Jindabyne Shared Trail project.
Once complete, the new pathways will connect with other infrastructure around the southern part of Lake Jindabyne.
According to the council’s website, the Lake Jindabyne Shared Trail project aims to provide a 50-kilometre trail network around the southern half of the lake.
“The project will complement existing trail experiences in our region, which will encourage increased visitation and provide a valuable recreation asset for our community,” the council’s website states.
“The ‘around the lake trail’ vision has been explored by Council over the last 10 years, and this project is another step in achieving that vision. The southern route (this project) will provide a variety of trail experiences to a wider user group of riders and walkers.”
The works will be carried out between 7 am and 6 pm weekdays, with the council spokesperson saying it is unclear how long they will take to complete.
During construction of Section 1.1 and Section 2.1, there will be rolling work-zone exclusion areas as contractors complete the project.
No full closures are expected, but bike riders are asked to dismount and walk through the work areas.
“Signs and warnings and staff will be in place when and wherever there are any changes to trail conditions.”
On its website, SMRC also flagged its intent to release further information on the final stages of the project, including the Mill Creek/Tyrolean Mountain Bike Park, a new carpark, and a road underpass for the new trail.
A council spokesperson said staff were putting the final touches on those projects.
“It’s still too early to be able to estimate dates and timelines with any kind of certainty, but we will be very excited to share all these details as soon as everything’s in place,” they told Region.
The Jindabyne Shared Trail project is being funded entirely by the NSW Government through Restart NSW.
The full project is expected to be completed by mid-2026, weather permitting.
