Former NSW police officer charged after allegedly stealing capsicum spray

A former police officer has been granted bail after allegedly stealing while he was a serving officer.

A NSW Police spokesperson said an investigation had started in December 2025.

Following their inquiries, a 52-year-old former officer was arrested at about 6:20 pm on Monday (26 January) and handed three charges over an alleged theft.

He was taken to Gundagai Police Station and charged with stealing, possessing or using a prohibited weapon without a permit, and receive/dispose stolen property minor indictable offence less than $5000.

“Police will allege in court the man had stolen a can of Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) spray while employed by the NSW Police Force,” the spokesperson said.

He was granted conditional bail and is expected to appear before Gundagai Local Court on 17 April.
